Delete your account

You can delete your WHYVO account and its data at any time, from inside the app or by asking WHYVO LLC to do it for you. This page explains both routes and exactly what is removed.

Delete it yourself, in the app

Open Settings, then Account.
Tap Delete Account, then Continue.
On the final step, enter your current password and type DELETE ACCOUNT to confirm.
Tap Permanently delete account. Deletion runs immediately and you are signed out.

Ask us to delete it instead

If you cannot sign in, or you no longer have the app installed, email support@whyvo.app from the email address on the account, or tell us the phone number the account uses.
We will verify that the account is yours before deleting anything, because an unverified deletion request is a way to attack someone else's account.
We aim to complete verified requests within 30 days.

What is deleted

Your profile, including your display name, username, phone number, email address and profile photo.
Your contacts, and any entry other people's contact lists hold that points at your account.
Your status posts, and the likes and comments you left on others.
Your linked devices, passkeys, two-factor secrets and recovery codes, push tokens and notification settings.
Your starred and saved messages, your reactions, your read state, and your archived, cleared and hidden chats.
Your live-location sessions and your device backup records.
Data held by the WHYVO status service and the WHYVO calling service. Deletion is not reported as complete unless those services confirm it too.

What is not deleted, and why

Messages you already sent to other people. Their copy of the conversation is theirs, and we cannot remove it from their device. Those messages are end-to-end encrypted, so WHYVO LLC cannot read them either.
A deactivated, anonymous record of the account. After deletion the account row is stripped of your name, username, phone number and email address, and is shown to anyone who still has an old conversation with you as Deleted account. It exists only so those conversations do not break, and it cannot be signed in to or recovered.
Records we are required to keep for legal, tax or fraud-prevention reasons, for as long as the law requires.

Before you delete

Deletion is permanent. There is no undo and no recovery window, and the same phone number can be used to create a new, separate account afterwards.
Your message history is stored encrypted on your own devices. Deleting the account does not reach into a device you still hold, so sign out or remove the app there as well if you want it gone.
A WHYVO Premium subscription is billed by Apple or Google, not by WHYVO LLC. Deleting your account does not cancel it. Cancel it in your Apple account settings or in Google Play first.
