WHYVO DATA
Delete your data
You can remove specific data from WHYVO without closing your account. Most of it you can delete yourself inside the app; for anything else, WHYVO LLC will remove it on request. This page lists both routes, and says plainly what cannot be removed and why.
Delete it yourself, in the app
- A single message. Press and hold it, then choose Delete. In a chat you can delete it for everyone; the copy on WHYVO LLC servers goes with it.
- A whole conversation. Open the chat, then Clear chat.
- Photos, videos and files in one chat. Open the chat info screen, then Clear media files.
- A status post. Open the post and choose Delete. Likes and comments on it go with it.
- A channel post or a past live stream. In the channel, or in Settings → Creator, use the row menu and choose Delete.
- A linked device or session. Settings → Linked devices, then remove the device. Its keys and push token are deleted with it.
- Notification tokens. Turning notifications off in your device settings removes the push subscription held for that device.
Contacts
- Whyvo only ever holds contacts you chose to share. Revoking contacts access in your phone's settings stops any further sharing immediately.
- On iPhone, with full contacts access, the next sync replaces your synced list - so removing someone from your phone's address book removes them from Whyvo too.
- There is no per-contact delete control in the app today. To have your synced contacts removed from WHYVO LLC servers without deleting your account, email us using the route below and say so; we will remove them.
Ask WHYVO LLC to delete it instead
- Email support@whyvo.app from the email address on the account, or tell us the phone number the account uses, and say which data you want removed.
- We verify that the account is yours before deleting anything, because an unverified deletion request is a way to attack someone else's account.
- We aim to complete verified requests within 30 days. Your account stays open.
What is not deleted, and why
- Messages you already sent to other people. Their copy of the conversation is theirs, and we cannot remove it from their device. Those messages are end-to-end encrypted, so WHYVO LLC cannot read them either. "Delete for everyone" removes a message from the chat; it cannot recall a screenshot.
- Records we are required to keep. Limited security and abuse records, and payment records retained for accounting and tax obligations, are kept for as long as the law requires even after the data they refer to is deleted.
- Backups. Deleted data can persist in encrypted system backups for up to 30 days before those backups age out. It is not restored to your account.
